Pressed charcoal, or briquettes, is charcoal reshaped into uniform moulds. Shisha cubes and discs and some grilling charcoals are made this way.
Production steps
1. Grinding
Natural charcoal — including fines from screening — is ground to the right particle size.
2. Mixing with a binder
A natural binder such as starch is added with a measured amount of water so the powder holds together.
3. Pressing
The mix is pressed in machines with cube, hexagonal or cylindrical moulds. Pressure determines hardness and density.
4. Drying
Pieces are dried in drying rooms to the target moisture — a critical quality step.
5. Inspection and packing
Pieces are checked for hardness and cracks, then packed in sealed bags and cartons.
Why briquettes are growing
- Uniform shape: predictable heat from every piece.
- Longer burn: thanks to high density.
- Using fines: less production waste.
- Easier packing: more efficient shipping.
What makes a good briquette?
A carefully dosed natural binder, high hardness, low ash and no odour when burning.
